Vintage costume print from Travestis

This rare vintage print, found in the Paris flea markets, depicts Raquel Meller, a popular and celebrated Spanish “cuple singer” and music hall entertainer from the 20th century.

Her songs were famous the world over and she made countless recordings. One of her greatest hits, “La Violetera” was used by Charles Chaplin in his “City Lights”.

Here she is depicted on a page of “Travestis”, a beautiful album of costumes (circa 1920) printed by the famous French fashion magazine La Mode Nationale de Paris.
