Bamileke Beaded Terracotta Head

Female head sculpted from terracotta clay and embedded with glass beads, made by the Bamileke people of Cameroon.

I have a rare collection of these incredible heads. They have been skillfully handcrafted and each one is unique. 

You may find slight imperfections but these quirks in the making add to their charm and originality.

Though essentially decorative, each one has its own personality and is sure to make a bold design statement.

They are bright, bold and beautiful!

It’s a sad reality that the traditional  skills used to make objects like these heads are threatened. As young people choose to leave their families and villages to work in cities, artisan knowledge and skills passed down through generations are dying out and crafts like these are becoming more rare.
